Tamko Shingle Repair: The Tampa Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Tamko-compatible shingle repair materials across Tampa, with most repairs running $350 – $850 installed depending on the size of the damaged area and the shingle line you have. Most Tamko shingle repairs we handle are finished in a single visit. You’ll usually spot the problem after a storm, when you find shingle granules in your gutters or see a shingle tab lifted on the roof edge, flapping in the wind.
Tamko shingles fail in predictable ways in Florida. The heat breaks down the adhesive seal strip, the afternoon thunderstorms work water under the tab, and the next thing you know a section of your roof is exposed. Travis Oakley and our crew walk roofs in Tampa every week, and we see the same failure points repeat across neighborhoods from Westchase to Carrollwood: missing tabs, cracked shingles, and nail pops that turn into slow leaks.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To
Our Tampa crews repair and match Tamko’s three main residential shingle lines: Heritage (the architectural laminated series most common on Tampa homes), Heritage Premium (heavier weight, wider color selection), and Elite Glass-Seal (the three-tab line still found on older builds). The Heritage series uses a double-layer laminated construction with a 5-5/8-inch exposure, which is a different measurement than the Elite’s standard 5-inch tab. If you mix those up on a repair, the rows won’t line up and water will find the gap.
To identify what you have, look inside your attic or garage for a leftover bundle wrapper. If you can’t find one, note the shingle thickness and the color name stamped on the cellophane. We carry the most common Tampa-area Tamko colors on our trucks, including Weathered Wood, Charcoal Black, and Driftwood. Tamko has shifted some color formulations over the years, so a 2012 Heritage Weathered Wood won’t always match a 2023 bundle. We photograph the existing shingle in direct sun before pulling stock, because the roof-facing side fades at a different rate than the shaded side. That’s the kind of thing that separates a repair that disappears from one that looks like a patch.
For replacement shingles, we use OEM Tamko stock when the job is under any manufacturer warranty period. Outside that window, quality aftermarket equivalents from GAF, Owens Corning, or CertainTeed can save you money without cutting corners. We’ll lay out both options with honest trade-offs before you sign anything.

Signs Your Tamko Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules collecting in your gutters. Florida UV exposure breaks down the asphalt coating on Tamko shingles, and the ceramic granules start shedding. A pile of granules at your downspout means your shingles are losing their weatherproofing layer and need attention within the season.
- Lifted or flapping shingle tabs. The heat-activated seal strip on Tamko shingles can fail in Tampa’s summer heat, especially on south-facing roof planes. Once a tab lifts, wind gets under it and folds it back, exposing the nail line to rain.
- Curling corners. Moisture builds up under the shingle edge when attic ventilation is poor, and Tamko’s laminated tabs curl at the corners. Curled shingles catch wind and tear off during thunderstorms.
- Dark stains on your ceiling. A small leak under a damaged shingle doesn’t show up as a drip. It stains drywall slowly. By the time you see it, the decking underneath has been wet for weeks. We find rot underneath roughly half the stained ceilings we open up in Tampa.
- Nail pops pushing through shingles. Tampa’s humidity expands the plywood decking, and nail heads push up through the shingle surface. Those exposed fasteners rust, then leak. We replace them with ring-shank nails anchored properly.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Tamko shingle repair typically costs in Tampa, installed:
- Single tab or small repair (1 – 5 shingles): $350 – $500
- Moderate repair (half a square, 50 sq ft): $500 – $700
- Larger repair (up to one square, 100 sq ft): $700 – $850
- Add-on: replace damaged underlayment or decking section: $75 – $250 depending on condition
The price range is driven by roof pitch, story height, and how much of the existing shingle area matches our stock. A one-story ranch in Land O’ Lakes with an easy 6/12 pitch runs cheaper than a two-story South Tampa home with a steep pitch and tie-off requirements. Every quote is itemized: shingles, underlayment, fasteners, labor, and haul-away. The written price you get before work starts is the price on the invoice. We don’t surprise you at the door. We follow The Garrison Standard: the number goes on paper before any work begins, and every repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing for a full year. If it fails within that year, we come back at no charge.

Walking your Tampa roof with a pair of binoculars to count missing shingles? Fine. Getting on a ladder to check flashing? That’s where we pump the brakes. A shingle replacement on a low-slope roof with a stable ladder and a spotter can be done safely by a capable homeowner. But the moment the pitch climbs above a 6/12, or you’re on a two-story Tampa home with tile or terracotta accents, the risk of a fall isn’t worth the few hundred dollars you’d save. Falls are the leading killer on residential job sites, and that includes homeowners who “just need to take a look.”
What you can safely check: granule buildup, visible missing tabs from the ground, dark streaks inside the attic, and your insurance policy’s wind damage deductible. What you should call us for: anything on a steep pitch, repairs near a valley or flashing transition, or a leak you can’t trace in under an hour. Call (850) 750-9193 and we’ll get on it. If it’s not squared away, we’re not done.
FAQs
In Tampa’s heat and humidity, expect 15 to 20 years from Heritage architectural shingles, and 12 to 15 years from Elite three-tabs. That’s realistic for our climate. Some roofs fail sooner because of poor attic ventilation. Call (850) 750-9193 and we’ll tell you honestly how much life your roof has left.
Yes, individual shingles and small sections can be repaired when the surrounding shingles are still pliable and the granule loss is isolated. If the shingle is brittle, cracked through, or the decking below is soft, a patch won’t hold and a larger replacement is the cheaper option over time.
Most repairs take between 1 and 3 hours once we’re on site, depending on the area size and whether decking or underlayment needs replacement. We bring everything on the truck so we don’t run back and forth to a supplier.
We keep the most common Tampa-area Tamko Heritage colors on our trucks. For less common colors or older formulations, we source the match from our supplier network, usually within one to two business days. Call (850) 750-9193 and we’ll confirm stock before you schedule.
