CertainTeed Shingle Repair: The Tampa Owner’s Guide
CertainTeed shingle repair in Tampa typically runs $275 – $650 for a small area repair, and most jobs are completed the same day we arrive. We stock CertainTeed-compatible shingles and matching color blends on our trucks, so we don’t have to order parts and make you wait a second trip. Most homeowners find the damage the morning after a storm: shingle pieces in the yard, a dark patch on the roofline, or water staining on the ceiling that wasn’t there last week.
CertainTeed makes good shingles. But Florida weather doesn’t care about the brand name. High wind, flying debris, and years of UV exposure will eventually break down any asphalt shingle, and CertainTeed is no exception. The good news is that a repair is usually straightforward if you catch it before the underlayment or decking takes on water. We’re an independent Tampa roofing contractor that installs and repairs CertainTeed products. We’re not affiliated with CertainTeed, but we know their product lines well because we’ve installed enough of them across this city to know exactly how they fail and how to fix them properly.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To
CertainTeed’s residential asphalt shingle lineup covers several familiar series lines: XT 25 (the workhorse three-tab), Landmark (their most common architectural shingle), Landmark Pro (heavier architectural with better wind ratings), and Presidential Shake (the thick designer shingle). The repair procedure is similar across all of them, but matching gets more specific as you move up the line.
Here’s what matters in the field. XT 25 three-tabs come in a standard 12″ x 36″ tab size with a 25-year limited warranty. Landmark architectural shingles are wider, roughly 13-1/4″ x 39-3/8″, and carry a heavier 1.5-square-foot granular surface. If you have Landmark and someone patches in an XT 25, the difference is visible from the street: the texture doesn’t match, the shadow line breaks, and the color never quite blends right. That’s the compatibility gotcha we see most often from previous patch jobs. We pull the shingle’s color code from the wrapper or the underside of a loose piece, then match the series before we ever set a ladder against the house. OEM CertainTeed shingles are the right call for anything less than 5 years old, because aftermarket drop-ins from other manufacturers rarely match the granule tone on a fresh roof. On older roofs that have faded, a quality aftermarket color match often blends better than a brand-new OEM piece that’s brighter than everything around it.

Signs Your CertainTeed Shingle Repair Is Failing
You don’t need to get on your roof to know something’s wrong. Here’s what to look for from the ground, plus what each symptom usually means:
- Shingle pieces in the yard or in your gutters after a storm. Tampa’s summer squalls regularly hit 50 – 60 mph gusts. Once a shingle’s adhesive seal breaks, the wind gets under it and starts tearing pieces off. Each lost piece exposes the underlayment below, and the next storm does more damage.
- Curling or cupping at shingle corners. This is the classic Florida heat signature. Years of 90-plus-degree attic temperatures bake the asphalt core and shrink it. Corners lift, the seal breaks, and the shingle becomes a wind catch. CertainTeed’s Landmark line holds up better than most, but no asphalt shingle is immune to a decade of Tampa sun.
- Granule loss showing as dark patches or shiny spots. All asphalt shingles shed some granules as they age. When you see a patch that looks smoother or darker than the shingles around it, the protective granule layer is gone and the asphalt core is exposed to UV. That spot is now aging faster than the rest of the roof.
- Water stains on ceilings or walls that appear after heavy rain. By the time water reaches your drywall, the failure has been working for a while. It usually means a damaged shingle let water through to the underlayment, and the underlayment eventually gave way. The earlier you address this, the less decking we have to replace.
- Loose or missing shingles you can see flapping in the wind. A shingle that’s still attached at one nail but flapping at the bottom is doing zero protective work. It’s also peeling back more with every gust, pulling up its neighbors. This is the one that turns a $300 repair into a $900 replacement if you wait too long.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Tampa, expect to pay $275 – $650 for a standard CertainTeed shingle repair that covers up to about one square of roof area (100 square feet). The wide range isn’t because contractors are guessing. It’s because the job varies based on pitch, height, and what’s underneath the damaged shingles.
Here’s what drives the price:
- Single-story, low-pitch, easy access: $275 – $385
- Two-story or steeper pitch, needing safety anchors: $400 – $550
- Repairs requiring underlayment or decking replacement: $500 – $650 plus material
That price includes the shingles, the nails, the labor, the clean-up, and a written workmanship guarantee through the 365-Day Done Right Promise. Before any work starts, you get a written price. That’s the Garrison Standard, and it means the number doesn’t change when the technician hands you the bill. We walk the roof, confirm the damage, and put the price on paper before a single shingle comes off. You’ll also know what we’re doing line by line: shingles, nails, sealant, flashing if needed, and disposal. No change orders, no “while we’re up here” surprises.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do the inspection part. Get a good pair of binoculars, walk your property line, and look for the signs we listed above. Check your gutters for granule buildup. Check the yard after storms. That’s square-one, no-risk homeowner work.
The repair itself is a different matter. Working on a roof means working at height, on a slope, on a surface that’s often damp from morning dew or rain. We use safety harnesses, ridge anchors, and proper footwear on every roof, even a low single-story. A slip on a two-story roofline is a life-changing injury, not a scraped knee. Beyond safety, the technical part is knowing how to properly seal the new shingle to the old ones without tearing the tabs, how to nail so the fastener doesn’t create a new leak path, and how to blend the repair so it doesn’t look like a patch. We’d rather come out, give you a written free estimate, and handle it the right way. Call us at (850) 750-9193. Travis Oakley personally walks every job twice before signing off, and if it’s not squared away, we’re not done.
FAQs
In Tampa’s heat and humidity, you can expect 18 – 25 years from a quality architectural CertainTeed shingle like Landmark, and 12 – 18 years from an XT 25 three-tab. The Florida sun degrades asphalt shingles faster than the manufacturer’s national warranty suggests, because the warranty assumes average conditions, and Tampa is not average. Proper attic ventilation and regular inspection will push you toward the higher end of that range. Call (850) 750-9193 for a free roof inspection, and we’ll give you an honest read on where your roof is in its lifespan.
Individual shingles can absolutely be repaired, and most of what we do in Tampa is targeted repair rather than full replacement. If the damage is storm-related or isolated to a few shingles, a repair is the right call. If the shingles are curling, granule-bald, or past 18 – 20 years old, patching becomes a temporary fix at best. We’ll tell you straight whether a repair makes sense or if you’re throwing good money at a failing roof. The estimate is free either way.
A standard repair takes 1 – 2 hours once we’re on site. The full visit, including inspection, setup, repair, and clean-up, usually runs 2 – 4 hours. We bring matching shingles, nails, sealant, and safety gear on the truck, so there’s no second trip. You’ll get a written price before work starts, and a written one-year guarantee when it’s done.
We stock CertainTeed-compatible shingles and color blends in common Tampa colors on our service trucks, including most Landmark and XT 25 shades. We also carry GAF and Owens Corning for homes with mixed brands. If your roof is a less common CertainTeed color or a Presidential Shake, we’ll source it and confirm the match before scheduling the repair. Call (850) 750-9193 with your shingle color name if you have it, and we’ll confirm what’s available for your exact roof.
